John M. Morris is a Managing Director of GKM Ventures, an expansion stage venture capital firm focused on emerging technology companies in the Western states, with particular emphasis on California. He is also the Chairman of the Tech Coast Angels, which is one of the largest angel organizations in the country. TCA invests in regionally-based startups and early-stage companies. John was also the past president and a co-founder of their Los Angeles based network. John is a frequent speaker and an occasional guest lecturer on venture capital and angel investing. John is also the President of the Western Region’s Association of Small Business Investment Companies.

John has previous investment banking and venture capital experience with Sutro & Co., Wedbush Morgan Securities and NewCap Partners. He was a principal at First Interstate Venture Capital Corporation and its successor Hall, Morris and Drufva Capital Management which invested in emerging technology companies.

John began his business career with Arthur Young & Co. (now Ernst & Young) in Los Angeles after receiving his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles. During his career in venture capital, John has been a director for a number of companies. He serves on the board of several organizations dedicated to entrepreneurship, the Los Angeles Venture Association, Entretec and the Angel Capital Association. He is a co-founder and past president of the Forum for Corporate Directors.
